At Charleston Carriage Works, we’re so proud of our beautiful city and delighted that we’re in a position to share our southern hospitality to our visitors on our Charleston carriage tours. Travelers, readers, and tourism critics throughout the world continuously award Charleston, South Carolina as top city not only in the nation, but also ranks our Holy City as one of the top cities in the world. We are honored to receive such recognition, and look forward to the many more visitors that will come see us this year.
Travel + Leisure Hall of Fame
The only thing better than having Charleston named second of the World’s Best Cities by readers of Travel + Leisure is being voted the best city in the U.S. and Canada. In fact, the oldest city in South Carolina has a place in the Hall of Fame, having been on the top 10 list for more than 10 years in a row.
Condé Nast Votes Charleston in for a Five-Year Streak
Meanwhile, at Condé Nast Traveler, Charleston’s historic flavor caught travelers’ attention, gaining the number one ranking for “Top Small City in the US” for the fifth consecutive year. More travelers than ever participated in the 28th Annual Readers’ Choice Awards, which were divided into small (population under 150,000) and large cities for the first time ever.
Charleston Carriage Works loves the description given to us by Condé Nast Traveler that includes the sights and sounds we appreciate every day as we guide our horse-drawn carriages. “With its beautiful gardens, vibrantly painted Georgian houses along Rainbow Row, and carriages clacking across cobblestone streets, Charleston remains one of the country’s most picturesque cities.”
TripAdvisor’s Top Three
At TripAdvisor, only the biggest metros, New York City and Chicago, beat little ole Charleston, South Carolina for the Travelers’ Choice award of “Top Destination in the United States.” Of course, among the best things to do in the Holy City are the Charleston horse carriage tours, where we just love receiving enthusiastic reviews like this one, “Blake was awesome…very informative and knowledgeable….even Ben the horse was entertaining …a wonderful experience. The whole team was very accommodating and made us feel special!!!!”
Outstanding Hotels and Restaurants
OK, we’re already blushing from all that love and attention, but there’s a spotlight on stars among Charleston’s hotels and restaurants as well. An astonishing clean sweep of the top four positions on Travel + Leisure’s 2015 “U.S. Best Hotels,” saw Charleston grab a total of five of the 10 places. Plaudits go to Wentworth Mansion, French Quarter Inn, Planters Inn, The Vendue and market Pavilion Hotel.
From Condé Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice Awards, Charleston had two representatives in the category of “Top 25 Hotels in the US,” In the heart of Charleston’s historic district, The Restoration on King was ranked 2, and Wentworth Mansion, a romantic, luxurious property came in at 13.
On the list of “Top 100 Restaurants in America for 2015,” more than 5 million voters for 20,000 restaurants singled out Halls Chophouse, a traditional old-world steakhouse on upper King Street. The “American fine dining restaurant serves prime steaks, Lowcountry and fresh seafood specialties in an energetic, visually striking environment,” giving it an impressive fourth place standing among all dining spots chosen by verified diners at OpenTable.
