Fun Charleston Things to Do When Out of Ideas

You don’t get to be the number one rated city in the U.S. without having a couple of fun things to do. But that doesn’t mean it’s always easy to find an interesting activity for your trip to Charleston. You’ve tried Googling. You’ve tried an app or two. And yet it seems like you’re just as short on ideas as when you started because all of the searches only told you what you already know about visiting a new city.

Fortunately, we’ve got a few fun things to do in Charleston if you’re new to the area:

  • Book a Charleston carriage tour. All right—you caught us. We’re a little biased in this regard, but hey: we wouldn’t be in the carriage business if we didn’t think it was one of the best ways to see this historic city. There’s a reason TripAdviser listed us as one of the top ten things to do in Charleston—we have a consistent record of pleasing our guests and showing them a side of the city that they’d never otherwise get to see. The slow, leisurely tour isn’t only a great way to see the sights, though. It’s also a great way to get off of your feet if you’ve already done too much sightseeing. But enough about us. What if you’ve already taken a carriage ride?
  • Take a harbor cruise. You know all of that history we’re always talking about on this blog? Well, here’s one relaxing way to make it come alive: take a harbor cruise out to Fort Sumter. Fort Sumter is, of course, the site of the Civil War battle that started it all. Because Fort Sumter is now a National Monument, you’ll find park rangers there who can guide you around, tell you about the history of the battle, and give you the exact context you need to appreciate this monument and all of its stories.
  • Check out the Charleston city market. Here you’ll find local arts and crafts that will immediately plug you into the culture of Charleston—thankfully located inside beautiful market buildings that help can you get out of the heat during a summer vacation. Feel free to purchase some goods or simply check them out as you explore the city.
  • Okay, maybe this one doesn’t exactly scream “relaxed southern charm,” but this is a list about fun, after all. We can’t conclude the list without talking about something that will blow your hair back a little bit. You can stop over at Wild Blue Ropes Adventure Park and have some great family fun that’s a little bit outside of your comfort zone. You’re here to create memories, after all—it wouldn’t quite be a vacation if you didn’t cut loose and have a little fun.

No matter what kind of fun you’re looking for—from the relaxed and leisurely to the thrilling escapes, you’ll find a slice of it in Charleston.
