Frequently Asked Questions.

We’ve compiled a handful of questions commonly asked by our customers below. Simply click or tap any question to reveal the answer. If you do not see your specific question here, feel free to contact us anytime!

Do you use smaller carriages for Private Tours?

No.  All of our private tours are conducted in the larger 16 passenger carriages.  The smaller carriages require some passengers to face backwards or to the side.  Our customer feedback demonstrated that people would rather face forward so they can see the tour guide.   We discontinued our use of the smaller carriages to make sure we can present the best experience.

Can we bring our dog?

We love animals!  Dogs are welcome on our tours.  If they are not small enough to fit in your lap please purchase a child’s ticket for them so they and others will be comfortable on the tour.  We always have water (and treats!) available for them at our stable.

How much does a tour cost?

Our standard pricing is $50 for adults and $40 for children (ages 11 and under). Young children (ages 1 and under) can ride for FREE but are required to sit on a lap. All Charleston City fees and taxes are included. Click here for special savings, discounts and promotions.

Can we buy tickets online?

Yes! You may purchase tickets and reserve your carriage ride online here.

Where are you located?

Tours depart from our stable at the corner of Anson and Pinckney Streets.

Is parking available?

Parking Downtown can be challenging (especially on busy days). The most convenient parking option is at one of the City’s nearby garages.

How do you care for your horses?

We LOVE our horses. They are treated like part of the family each and every day, enjoy extended vacations, get frequent time off and are under the watchful care of resident experts day and night. Our team is constantly and completely in tune with each horse’s personality traits, training, comfort level and health at all times.

Is every tour the same?

There are 5 possible tour zones. We have a team of tour guides and a full stable of horses. It’s safe to say no two tours are identical.

Can we select our tour route?

Per City regulations, all carriages are assigned a route at random upon departure.

Are your carriages covered?

Yes, our carriage roofs offer shade in the sun and cover from the rain.

What if the weather is bad?

We will normally operate in light rain as long as severe lightning doesn’t develop. In the case of heavy downpour or inclement weather, please call ahead of your reservation.

Are restrooms available?

We do have a restroom available for our customers.  There are also public restrooms in the Market building closest to East Bay Street (2 blocks away).

Should we tip the tour guide?

Gratuity is always appreciated and never required when riding with Charleston Carriage Works.

Can we walk through your stables?

Our horse stables are always open to the public and often part of the tour. Stop by and say hello to our team!

Who has the best carriage tour in Charleston?

We may be slightly biased here, but we do!
